Environmental Policy

Clyde Marine Services is committed to protecting and enhancing the environment through responsible operations and sustainable practices. This policy outlines our approach to minimising our environmental impact, complying with all relevant environmental legislation, and continually improving our environmental performance.

This policy applies to all Clyde Marine Services operations, including but not limited to vessel operations, maintenance activities, waste management, and any other services provided by the company. It covers all employees, contractors, and third-party providers operating under our control or on our behalf.

Clyde Marine Services commits to complying with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines, including but not limited to:

  • MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships): We adhere to MARPOL Annexes I-VI requirements to prevent pollution by oil, noxious liquid substances, harmful substances carried by sea in packaged form, sewage, garbage, and air pollution from ships.
  • UK Waste Legislation: We comply with the UK Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011, the Special Waste Regulations (Scotland) 1996, and any other applicable UK regulations governing waste management and disposal.

Clyde Marine Services is committed to sustainable waste management practices:

  • Waste Reduction: We aim to minimise waste generation through efficient operational practices, recycling, and reusing materials where possible.
  • Waste Segregation: Waste is segregated at source into recyclable and non-recyclable categories and stored in designated containers to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Waste Disposal: We ensure that all waste is disposed of responsibly, through licensed waste contractors, in compliance with MARPOL Annex V and UK Waste Regulations.
  • Special and Hazardous Waste: Special attention is given to hazardous and special wastes, such as oils, chemicals, and electronic waste. Such waste will be handled, stored, transported, and disposed of per MARPOL Annex I, UK Special Waste Regulations, and other applicable laws.

We strive to prevent pollution through the following measures:

  • Oil Spill Prevention and Control: Implement robust procedures for preventing oil spills, including regular maintenance of oil storage facilities, vessel machinery, and adherence to MARPOL Annex I requirements for oil discharge and oily waste management.
  • Chemical Handling: Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with MARPOL Annex II and III, preventing any accidental release that could impact the marine environment.
  • Sewage and Greywater Management: Comply with MARPOL Annex IV to manage sewage discharge properly and ensure no untreated sewage or greywater is released into the marine environment.

Clyde Marine Services is committed to reducing air emissions from our operations:

  • Emission Reduction: We comply with MARPOL Annex VI, which governs air pollution from ships, including the management of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Fuel Management: Use low-sulfur fuels where feasible and maintain efficient combustion systems to minimize emissions.
  • Energy Efficiency: Promote energy-efficient practices onboard vessels and in shore-side operations to reduce carbon footprints.

We recognise that effective environmental management is a shared responsibility:

  • Training: Provide regular training to all employees and contractors on environmental best practices, spill response, waste management, and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Awareness: Promote environmental awareness among employees, clients, and stakeholders to encourage environmentally responsible behavior.

We are committed to continually improving our environmental management system by:

  • Monitoring and Auditing: Regularly monitor environmental performance and conduct audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Setting Objectives: Establish measurable environmental objectives and targets that are reviewed periodically.
  • Review and Feedback: Regularly review this policy and environmental procedures to incorporate feedback and adapt to changing regulations and best practices.
